Affiliations
We are proud to be part of a number of amazing initiatives – from our Silver Eco Church award, recognising our work on sustainability and biodiversity in the churchyard, to our membership of the Inclusive Church network.
To encourage sustainability and biodiversity in our churchyard we installed a composting area, a bug hotel, a well stocked bird-feeding station and a bird box.
As part of our Eco Church audit we joined the Tear Fund’s Toilet Twinning Programme and we have twinned the St John’s toilet with a school in Chimbilwa, Southern Zambia – about 120 miles south-west of the capital, Lusaka.
We believe in inclusive Church - church which does not discriminate, on any level, on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race or sexuality. We believe in Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.
There are just over 300 churches in England with this designation: based on criteria chosen by the Church Buildings Council of the Church of England and Historic England.
Major Churches are physically large (mostly over 1,000 sq m), of exceptional significance, listed as Grade I, II* (or exceptionally II). They are open to visitors daily, and have a role or roles beyond those of a typical parish church, and make a considerable civic, cultural, and economic contribution to the wider community.
